Overview of Positions
- Animal Control staff includes 11 Animal Control Officers and an Animal Control Officer Supervisor. They enforce the State and City codes about animal care and their ownership. They have the authority to issue summonses for violations, to secure warrants, and to seize animals.
- The shelter staff includes the Animal Shelter Manager, Animal Care Supervisor, 8 Shelter Attendants, Outreach Coordinator, and 4 Customer Service Clerks. Devoted citizen volunteers and fosters provide further support.
Chesapeake Animal Services Unit (CASU)
- Salary varies based on position
- Animal Control Officers are on duty from 8:00 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekends. They respond to complaints such as cruelty, animal bites, stray domestic animals, at large complaints, nuisance, vicious, injured, and/or sick animals. An officer is on call for emergencies from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. weekdays and 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m..
